Overview

CIDOCAL Tablets contains Calcium Carbonate and Calcitriol. Calcium Carbonate contains calcium which is necessary for many normal functions of the body, especially bone formation and maintenance. Calcium can also bind to other minerals (such as phosphate) and aids in their removal from the body. Calcitriol plays a role in many biological processes, bone metabolism and muscle function. Calcitriol may reduce or even reverse BMD loss, decrease bone turnover markers, and improve quality of life.

Calcium carbonate is an inorganic salt and Calcitriol is the active form of Vitamin D.

One CIDOCAL Tablet twice daily or as directed by Physician.

CIDOCAL Tablets can be used in the treatment of following conditions:

  • Post-menopausal supplementation
  • Pregnancy and lactation
  • Pre-menstrual syndrome
  • Osteoporosis, osteomalacia and osteoarthritis
  • Hypocalcaemia in hypoparathyroidism
Calcium is absorbed through the intestinal tract via two mechanisms. A vitamin D-dependent active transport mechanism operates in the duodenum and proximal jejunum, the part of the small intestine just below the stomach. This area has the highest rate of absorption, about 3 times that of the remainder of the gut.5 A second mechanism for absorption is diffusion, which occurs throughout the small and large intestine.3
The dual absorption mechanism helps compensate for varying amounts of calcium in diet because the efficiency of absorption depends on the amount of calcium consumed.
